Pinterest is an incredible tool for driving traffic to your website. This includes landing pages, blog content, product pages, online courses, podcast and more. It works for well for both product and service based businesses. Whatever piece of content you have, you create pins for it and link it, it’s that simple. I have grown my clients Pinterest accounts to hundreds of thousands of views each month, in less than 3 months. Pinterest for marketing should be on your radar of priorities and I will tell you why below.
Pinterest is also amazing for getting leads and building brand awareness. While I love Instagram and Pinterest, they are used very differently for different things. First and foremost, I have to drill this into your mind. Instagram is about connecting with humans, building relationships and engaging. It’s based on building up a brand loyalty with followers and customers, and metrics like comments, photo likes, followers etc. Pinterest is about searching and discovering; Pinterest is a search engine, not a social media channel.
Both platforms are great, but there is something so attractive about Pinterest’s ability. These include:
- Their capability to reach millions of users every day
- The ability to automate a lot of the processes within Pinterest, scheduling pins, batch creating graphics, etc
- The way to get in front of your ideal customers without the time suck that happens with instagram.
Instagram can be super challenging between the constant algorithm changes, the labor intensive time spent engaging with followers and ideal customers and lack of results. I encourage you to TRY PINTEREST! It works for all business, service and product, blogs, podcasts, etc.

Pinterest can help you reach more people and drive TRAFFIC
People don’t have to follow you to find your pins on Pinterest, which is a huge advantage over Instagram. When you share a post you have the ability to reach millions of active users each day. Pinners are using the platform to search for specific products, services, ideas and inspiration.
Whether your posting pins that link towards your website, your blog posts, etc you can reach MILLIONS of users every day.
With Instagram, even your followers aren’t seeing the majority of your content, which can feel so frustrating. The algorithms are always changing and it make people’s strategy very confusing.

With Pinterest You Don’t Have to Spend Hours Of Time Engaging With People
Calling all introverts, this one is for you! My FAVORITE thing about Pinterest is that you do not need to engage with people like you do with Instagram. While I do LOVE the connections you can build on Instagram, it can feel like a full time job. Between commenting, replying to DM’s and engaging with new accounts, it feels like a lot!
With Pinterest, your job is to create engaging content in the form of Pins that link back to your content. It’s more about how to create a beautiful pin with strong copy than engagement. The amount of followers doesn’t matter on Pinterest.
.
Pinterest Users Don’t Have Brand Loyalty
This is KEY for small businesses. A whopping 95% of searches on Pinterest are not branded searches. That means when someone goes to Pinterest to search for “Cute running sneakers” they are not searching for “NIKE running sneakers, Cute TOMS sneakers, etc. This gives a huge advantage to small businesses and brands that are not very known. On Instagram, there is a huge sense of brand loyalty, so Pinterest gets the upper hand on this one.

Pinterest Helps Your Google SEO
SEO is key because the better your website shows up for keywords that you want to show up under, the more people will end up on your website.
Instagram does not affect your SEO. Despite all the followers you have built, all the endless hours dedicated to this channel, it does NOTHING for SEO. For me personally, this is a huge disappointment. SEO is so urgent for online businesses, so anything that helps get your name, product and keywords to show up higher on google is a priority for me and my clients.
On the other hand Pinterest will help your SEO. If you are consistently creating content using keywords, you will show up on google for those keywords. Here is an example. I recently started creating Pins for people who want to start a subscription box business. In the pin titles I added the keywords “subscription box coach Seattle.” If you google “subscription box coach Seattle , I show up on page one of google. Pinterest WORKS!

Pinterest Users Are Shoppers
People use Pinterest to BUY things. While on Instagram, people go to for entertainment and to engage, but not necessarily to shop. At 48%, shopping is a top activity for Pinterest users. People also pin things to save for future shopping.
According to Hootsuite, shopping ranks as the 7th most popular activity. Being at 14% for Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter, which all see lower shopping rates.
